Chinese Takeaway Tips

Over the past year or two, getting “a Chinese” has gone viral on social media platforms, especially Tik Tok.

Ordering takeaways has become a normal part of life nowadays. Don’t get me wrong, I do enjoy a Chinese takeaway myself once in a while, and it is okay to have takeaways occasionally. However, it is important to be cautious of the type of food, the frequency you are consuming takeaways, and the portion sizes.

Here are a few simple swaps to help your Chinese takeaway be more healthy:

  1. Swap fried rice for boiled or steamed

2. Choose foods without batter

3. Limit sauces such as sweet and sour and curry, which are high in sugar

4. Try to choose grilled, baked or steamed dishes rather than those that are deep fried, for example, steamed dumplings rather than fried

5. Consider sharing a main dish with a friend rather than eating the full serving

6. Ask for the sauce on the side so you can control how much sauce you are adding

7. Ask for a side of sautéed or steamed veggies such as carrots and broccoli

8. Choose healthier proteins such as chicken and tofu as opposed to pork and beef

I am not saying you have to swap everything and order dishes you do not enjoy. I am simply suggesting healthier alternatives. Of course, if you haven’t had a particular dish for ages and you really fancy it, then go for it and enjoy it. However, if you are just ordering for convenience and are trying to choose healthier options, then some of these tips might be for you.
